You can use context clues like Antonyms to figure
out the meaning of words you don't know:
Common Context Clues:
-Antonym Clues: a word or phrase is explained by the
display of a word or phrase of the opposite meaning. Watch
for words that signal antonyms like but, however,
although, while, etc.
E.g.: The English professor was
very loquacious; however, the students were quiet.
*NOTE: The word "however" lets us know that the
opposite of loquacious is quiet.
-Definition Clues: the meaning of a word is explained
immediately after its use.
E.g.: The English professor is very loquacious, which
means she likes to talk a lot.
*NOTE: From this example, it is clear that someone who
is loquacious likes to talk a lot
